Manage File Associations

Top  Previous  Next

Ultra File Opener can open over 280 different types of file formats.  You have the option of selecting which files you want the program to open by default.  That is to say, any time you double click on the filename ending with the format extension you have selected will result in having UFO open the file.  If you want to return to the default associations that were set by the program you can restore the default settings.

You can view a complete list of supported files by clicking this link: Supported File Formats.

To Begin

There are two ways of accessing the File Associations: from the Quick Start Window and from the Viewer.

To open the File Associations window from the Quick Start window, do the following:

In the Options & Help section, click Manage File Associations.

To open the File Associations window from the Viewer, do the following:

Click the File menu and select File Associations.

notes You will notice that there are very few file formats selected by default.  The reason for this is so as to not compete with applications that already have a set file association with particular formats.

Select Files

A list of all file types is provided in the category section "All File Types".  You can scroll down and select any one or more items you choose, or you can narrow your search by category by first selecting the category type as listed in the left pane. You can use the select all and select none options as well.

The following categories of files are supported:

Common Images
RAW Images
Text Files
Source Code
Archive Files

To select one or more file formats to be managed by UFO by default , do the following:

Select a checkbox associated with any one or more items provided in the list.

You can select all the items in the list or have all items cleared so that none are selected.

To select all the items in the list, do the following:

Click the Select All link at the top of the window.

To select none of the items and have all selections cleared, do the following:

Click the Select None link at the top of the window.

Restore Defaults

After making changes to the settings you can easily restore all the settings to their original default state.

To restore the defaults, do the following:

Click the Restore Defaults button.

When you are done you can click the "Close" button to continue using the program.
